The eastern crossing
The eastern Alderdash is the desert-facing approach to an old river and pass system divided by later borders. Caravans use it to move between Lignett and Zarran-Tal, while patrols inspect travellers who may have crossed the western approach days earlier.
One name, competing claims
Lignett's lock houses, Zarran-Tal's surveyors and local route families preserve different accounts of who first controlled the crossing. Each account supports a different right to tax, repair or close it. The shared name survives because no claimant can erase the others.
A route Myaks can exploit
Conflicting records make Alderdash useful to smugglers. A cargo can be lawful under one archive and suspect under another. Essan fragments moved in small consignments may pass through several jurisdictions before anyone realises they belong to the same find.
