Stelix

Regional overview

A country, not a single city

A populated jungle highland of concealed river routes, working settlements, Essan-bearing mines and a capital spread across a forested plateau.

The detailed map and marker positions follow the approved regional review.

The plateau city

Stelix Capital

The capital occupies much of a broad plateau within the mountainous rainforest. Mature canopy continues through its timber wards, gardens and civic terraces, hiding the city from travellers without hiding it from the reader's map. One controlled ascent reaches a concealed cave or deep-cleft entrance; a difficult rocky route lies at the rear.

Capital marker shown at normal regional scale.

The route through Stelix

Coast to capital, capital to mines

The reader's map shows the capital plainly. Its secrecy is an in-world defence created by rainforest, highland folds, controlled waterways and guarded approaches, not by removing it from the atlas.

The road south passes villages built around water and highland watch settlements before reaching the mining territory beyond the Lower Vey.

How Stelix works

Government and law

A crown that listens to working knowledge

King Rhavan and Queen Maelyra rule together. Commanders, healers, trainers, river captains and mine elders are brought into decisions that concern their fields. Stelic law weighs intention against consequence, and protection against the danger an outsider may bring to concealed communities.

Women and work

Authority is part of service

Women serve as queen, princess-commanders, riders, guards, rune-workers, miners, healers and crew leaders; men work throughout the same systems. The current working interpretation is that responsibility follows competence, discipline and earned trust in a society that cannot afford to waste skilled people.

Mines and Essan

The bones of Stelix

Heartstones from the southern mines hold and direct Essan for healing, shields, river gates, lamps, messages and panther harnesses. Mine settlements therefore combine homes, food, medicine, defence, washing pools, workshops and extraction in one interdependent community.

The outside world

Trade without surrendering the roads

Stelix trades and gathers intelligence through river crews, scouts, refugees and covert contacts, but protects the routes to its capital and mines. Rescued captives are recorded, healed, fed and housed rather than sold, though protection can become restriction when secrets threaten the country.

Inside the plateau capital

City locations

01

Main terrace

Markets, panther imagery, practical channels and timber wards spread beneath mature trees. Selected civic buildings use pale honey stone without turning the city into a stone metropolis.

02

Guest ward

A controlled terrace overlooking lower gardens, used to house protected outsiders while the council weighs sanctuary against the danger of disclosed routes.

03

Royal hall

A broad open hall of dark stone and pale wood, cooled by narrow channels and centred upon a living-root dais rather than a monumental fortress throne.

04

Trade court

Three internal terraces below the guest ward, with a central pool, goods bays, scribes and controlled contact with traders from beyond Stelix.

05

Training yards

Lower working yards for staff, rune and panther training, embedded among the city's trees rather than arranged as a cleared military parade ground.

06

Rune chamber

A chamber beneath the eastern palace, cut into plateau stone and lit by mineral bowls and rings in the floor. It remains wholly beneath a plateau-top building.

07

Panther grounds

Old trees, standing rune stones, vines and mist form a controlled bonding landscape inside the western plateau edge, with no occupied ground on the external cliff.

08

Court of Roots

The public judgement ring lies beneath a vast living arch at the palace heart, witnessed by the crown, warriors, elders, riders, miners, river folk, healers and lower-terrace representatives.
